The Pace Setter CoreDrill - Don't Waste the Pace

My whole life I’ve always felt like an anomaly. I can’t wait to hear why!” Adam was an administrator for an organization that had brought me in to go through the team’s talents with CoreClarity. Word had gotten around that Adam’s CoreDrill only showed up in one in two hundred people. No one, including Adam, was surprised. All 5 of his top talents landed up in the motivational quadrants of Mobilize and Energize, making him a Pace Setter.

Pace Setters have a constant drive towards outputs and accomplishments, whether they are intrinsically motivating themselves towards results or giving push and lift to others. They are natural catalysts for action and achievement and may generate a rhythm and pace that soon laps others. The lack of Reflect talents is made up for by being a hands-on learner that is helping, facilitating, or teaching others. The only meeting they may enjoy is the one they are in front of and leading.

Most have a strong work...

The Trail Blazer CoreDrill: Forging new Paths

Jeannie was a new intern and the youngest member of the operations team. So everyone assumed she was shy or a bit timid to speak out until she had learned the ropes of her new job. When I looked at her talents I encouraged her team leader to intentionally ask Jeannie for her thoughts or perspectives during their staff meetings. Every time he did this she would pause briefly and then respond with some excellent insights or clarifying questions that greatly contributed to the team’s project. “She brings more to the table than what we expected from an intern. How did you know she wanted to be asked questions?”

I didn’t know Jeannie, but I knew that she was a Trail Blazer and just because they aren’t talking doesn’t mean they aren’t processing the discussion at a deep level. Asking her to contribute was a great way to onramp her internal talents. Sometimes they may have to be invited into the discussion if it’s something they...

The Bridgineer CoreDrill: A Bridge Worth Crossing

bridgineer coredrill Sep 08, 2021

The forty people I stood in front of were all unemployed professionals helping each other find work in a cooperative job seekers network. I was asked to speak about how to use your strengths in your job search. When I offered to do a free one-hour coaching session at the end of my presentation, six people signed up. When I processed their talents through our CoreClarity process I was surprised to see all six of them had the same CoreDrill. All their talents were on the interactive side of the key in the Connect and Reflect quadrants. This is when I learned how to coach Bridgineers.

Bridgineers show up about 8% of the time in our CoreClarity database. Their talents are all on the interactive side of the CoreClarity key and have a drive for depth - whether it is deeper relationship with those they know or deeper understanding within their mental world. They naturally build bridges between knowledge, solutions or plans to the people who need it or will implement it.

The Force of Nature CoreDrill: When the Force is With You

Another iPhone Alert? I ignored my phone since it was 5:05 and I was making the commute by foot from the home office to the living room TV. The evening news was interrupted with a tornado warning in my county. I looked out the kitchen window and was staring at a funnel spout running from the clouds to the east horizon just beyond my neighborhood.

Fortunately, the spout worked its way north and made for a great neighborhood cell phone video block party. Though it was awesome to see a force of nature in action, its strength and power also demanded respect if not fear.

So it can be when your CoreDrill has talents in the Reflect, Energize, and Mobilize quadrants. You are what we call a Force of Nature. Overcomers, persuaders, natural leaders, mountain movers, intense or driven you make it happen. When I learned this was my CoreDrill the world made a lot more sense. My talent combination can inspire when it is on and disrupt when it is off.

Since Forces of Nature are...

The Optimizer CoreDrill: The Quest for the Best

coredrill optimizer Jul 21, 2021

The word optimize comes from the Latin word optimus which means “best.” Its definition is to make as perfect, effective, or functional as possible. People whose talents are in the Connect, Mobilize and Energize quadrants are called Optimizers because they want to optimize or make the most out of their life and yours.

Optimizers are natural first responders - they’re energized when there are tasks to complete, needs to meet, and people to do it with. They can read the room and flow to the need of the moment with a spirit of intentionality or even jocularity. Wasting time or burning daylight feels like a sin to many of this tribe as they want to make the most out of the time, opportunities and relationships they have before them.

They may have often been asked “What were you thinking?” in their younger years, to which the answer was often a shrug of the shoulders or a candid, “I wasn’t.” Moving from the “in the moment”...

The 3 Power P’s for the Passionato: Propelling the Power of Passion

Two things Carey loved were people and coffee. So when she decided to make a career change it was not surprising that she became a barista at a coffee shop. Very quickly her role and responsibilities began to align with her talents and she was thriving in her new career path.

The store manager initiated a competition to increase sales of packaged coffee. The first barista to sell 50 pounds would win. Carey was not very competitive but she did love people and coffee. Four hours into her shift she went to her boss and announced, “I sold 50 pounds. What should I do now?” He was astonished and conflicted. “Great job-but don’t tell anyone else. This was supposed to be a two week contest and we need everyone else to keep selling. You won, but let’s keep it our secret for another week.”

Passion, People, Purpose. Those are the 3 power P’s for the Passionato. Because we see more of the emotionally charged talents in the external Connect and...

The Stabilizer Effect

In water sports there’s an appreciation for the wake a boat leaves behind. A rough wake is not enjoyable for most water skiers or fishermen. The churn and disruption of the water is not ideal for gliding on the surface of a lake or attracting fish to a baited hook. However, a smooth wake or ripple effect makes for better riding and fishing conditions.

Every day we leave a wake behind us. Your wake is how other people experience you. When our Top 5 talents are working well together and moving towards the flow of strength, we can leave an enjoyable wake for others to experience.

When we are not working out of our Top 5 talents, or if the Kryptonite of some of our talents is ignited, we can leave a different type of wake that has more of a churn to it, externally as well as internally. So it is critical to understand not just our individual talents but the dynamics of how they work together.

If someone’s Top 5 talents are in all four of the CoreClarity...

How Life Lines Scale New Heights

Living in Colorado it is not uncommon to see rock climbers scaling the face of mountain cliffs in the Rockies. What you don’t always see is the Belayer, the person who controls the rope attached to the climber, ensuring that if they slip or fall they are protected. The Belayer and the rope provide a literal lifeline to the climber should anything go awry. It is also a great visual for the first of four CoreDrills that have talents in three of the four CoreClarity categories, also known as tri-quads.

Life Lines are individuals whose Top 5 talents align in the Connect, Reflect, and Energize quadrants with no Mobilize. The highest percentage, almost 30% of the people in the CoreClarity database are Life Lines because 28 of the 34 talents are in these quadrants and many of them show up at a greater percentage than talents in the Mobilize quadrant.

When working from their Top 5 talents Life Lines show up as the reliable support system you can count on to “getter...
